Bringing in Nature
This year, I have been much more cognizant of creating a beautiful environment that is rich in open-ended, natural materials. Bringing in natural baskets and filling them with treasures from nature including shells, pebbles, rocks, bark, leaves and pine cones invites children to inquire and explore. The children brought in a large part of our collection early in the year and continue to add to it as we journey through the seasons. In the photos above, you can see the nature items that we display on our shelves.

The Environment as the 3rd Teacher
It continues to be a challenge to think of ways that the physical space can serve as an educator in the intentional and purposeful choices that we make as educators to set up a space that inspires children to think, move, discover and create. This is one area I hope to improve next year.

Documentation
I have experimented a lot with documentation this year. In the slide show above, you can see our documentation wall. It is very much a work in progress. I am so excited about creating learning stories and documentation because it honours the children in every way that they may learn, allows children and educators to reflect on the thinking process and makes learning visible for anyone who enters our room. Shifting from the role of traditional classroom teacher, to a co-partner in the children's learning and a researcher who pieces it all together, has been a learning journey for me and continues to be so.

Hundred Languages of Children
I have always valued children as capable, thoughtful, deep thinkers who problem solve, build, dance, paint, sing, sculpt in a hundred languages.

Collaboration
One area that I still want to improve upon is the collaboration piece with the division of Kindergarten educators, and the families to ensure that all ideas are valued, honoured and respected as we take this journey together. We have so much to learn from each other.

Expression through the arts:
I love visual arts and am very interested in how children can express what they know through the arts.
